The pH Diet for Athletes

Are there any pH Diet guidelines Athletes should follow?

All of us, especially athletes, should know about proper alkaline pH levels in the blood and tissues - the body's entire metabolic process depends on an alkaline environment. When we ingest too many acidic or acid-producing foods, excess acid corrodes tissues and organs.

In addition, acid also provides a favorable environment for harmful bacteria and other micro organism that can damage organs, glands and body cells.

The proper pH Level in the human blood and tissues should be approximately 7.365 which is slightly alkaline. This pH balance is also critical to achieve top athletic performance as our bodies use fuel and metabolize the electrons from the food for energy.

The main goal of the pH Diet for athletes is to achieve pH Balance - pH Balance is critical to achieve top athletic performance and high exercise and workout results. Why?

During exercise, we produce acid waste. Our body continually attempts to remove this acid waste and tries to neutralize the acid build-up in many ways - our kidneys filter blood and excrete acid through urine, our lungs release carbon dioxide and we also sweat acids out of our skin.

Our bodies, when healthy, fit and in top shape, also have built in alkaline reserves to buffer acid and help neutralize pH imbalances.

What exactly is pH?

The pH level is a measure of acidity or alkalinity, which takes numerical values from 0 (maximum acidity) through 7 (neutral) to 14 (maximum alkalinity). The saliva, blood, urine, digestive juices, mucus and the fluids inside and outside the body's cells each have an optimum pH level - blood pH is the most telling of all.

The ideal blood pH is slightly alkaline, with a normal range of 7.35 to 7.45. If the blood pH moves below 6.8 or above 7.8, the cells of the body stop functioning and the human will die. Consequently, the body continually struggles to maintain its ideal pH.

Over-acidified body cells will interrupt cellular and tissue activities and bodily functions, which may lead to Acidosis - symptoms of acidosis may include chronic muscle pain, osteoporosis, acid indigestion, joint pain, low energy & fatigue etc.

And there is more: dieting according to a pH diet plan neutralizes acids inside the body - as the acidic environment is eliminated, there will be no need for new fat cells to form. That means the fat in our body is no longer needed, and literally melts away!

When we achieve pH balance through a pH Diet, the body naturally drops to its healthy weight, muscle and joint pain will diminish and energy levels will increase immensely.
